Herbal Treatments

spring plants

Last year, Cassie was drawn to take a Foundations of Herbalism course through a local herb shop (Tippecanoe Herbs.) She has since taken what she has learned to formulate herbal infused oils which the team at Somatic Arts offers as add-ons to Massage Services.

Some of the blends are only available in limited batches as they were crafted in a way that can not be replicated exactly (the "folk method") while others are single-herb macerations that are always on-hand.

Current available "Herbal Infusion" herbal oils add-ons ($15 for one or a combination) -

  • Chamomile Infused Shea Nut Oil - Chamomile is commonly used in sleepy-time tea blends. It is not only profoundly relaxing, but has powerful anti-inflammatory properties as well. Shea nut oil locks in moisture and penetrates relatively deep without leaving the skin feeling too greasy. It also exhibits anti-oxidant properties, protecting the oil from premature rancidity and purported to fend off free-radicals in the body.

  • Lavender Infused Shea Nut Oil - Lavender is a "cleansing" herb ("lavare" - wash) with similar benefits to Chamomile of being anti-inflammatory and relaxing. It is said to aid with eczema, psoriasis and dry skin.

  • Vanilla Citrus Mango Butter - This luxurious body butter combines the nourishing properties of Mango Butter, Jojoba, and coconut oils, creating a lightweight yet deeply hydrating formula. Infused with essential oils of Lime, Bergamot, Sweet Orange, Green Mandarin, and Vanilla CO2 extract, it delivers a refreshing and uplifting aroma while leaving your skin soft and radiant. This light butter is suitable as a face butter for non-acne prone skin.

  • Campfire Coffee Body Butter - a rich, thick body butter with a shea & cocoa butter base. The aroma is a woodsy coffee smell with a bit of smokiness to it. Cedarwood Essential oil is paired with Coffee CO2 extract with flowers of Chamomile and Rose macerated in oils of hemp seed and shea nut.

A note- while oils can lock in moisture that is already present in the skin, they can not, by nature "moisturize" - or add moisture- to the skin. Oil is hydrophobic so it does not hold water but can lock it in underneath an occlusive layer of oil. We recommend adding a hydrosol herbal spray add-on or asking your therapist to use a lotion underneath these oils if you suffer from dry skin.)

Other available Herbal Treatments

Aromatherapy (Essential Oils) - $5 - Add on

  • A variety of essential oils available including florals, citruses, mints, woodsy and mixed scents. Doterra and Tippecanoe Essential Oils are used.

Aromatherapy (Hydrosol) - $5 - Add on

  •  Hydrosols are sometimes seen as the "by-product" of Essential Oil steam distillation. Once upon a time, the Essential Oils were actually seen as the "by-product" of hydrosol collection! Using the same method of production as most essential oils, the water that collects underneath the oil has infused many of the water soluble properties of the herb or blend that was steam distilled. We spray these plant waters onto the skin for their individual toning and aromatic benefits. Currently available are Chamomile, Lavender, Blood Orange, Tulsi, Peppermint and Frankincense - all sourced from either Mountain Rose Herbs or Eden Botanicals.

Salt + Mud Treatment (standalone service under "Body Treatments")

  • A luxurious body treatment using Dead Sea Salt to exfoliate the feet and back. Warm Dead Sea Mud is applied to the back and bottoms of the feet as a relaxation massage is performed on the rest of the body.

  • Available in the following lengths - 75 min ($150), 90 min ($180) and 120 min ($240)

  • Currently only offered by Cassie.
